Gavin has always been into doing everything outdoorsy. I try to enjoy things, but to be honest i've never been into the outdoorsy stuff. I think it's because growing up I never really did the things he likes to do. He loves to Rock Climb, wake board, mountain bike, roller blade, snowboard, sledding, hike, you name it he loves it.
So, when i started dating him I decided that I'd like to start doing more things he likes to do, it's not that i DON"T LIKE these things i've just never had the chance to experience them. I have tried wake boarding and am awful at it (the rope just gets riped from my hands every time). We went snowboarding a few months after we got married so just about 2 years ago. I had a lot of fun, i fell down a lot but really can say i enjoyed myself and only cried the last run down when i was very tired and kept falling it was just one tear of exaustion. SInce then I decided i'd buy all the gear so Gavin and I could go again cuz i really liked it. We went to the Canyons resourt last time.
Well, since then i've also given birth to a child and gotten a little older and out of shape i guess. We decided to go to SnowBird yesterday with Gavin's brother in law and nephew. The first mistake is that i didn't want to go in the first place so i had a bad attitude to start out with. (plus it was my time of the month and i was very short fused). Second mistake is that I stayed up till 11:30 the night before talking with my sister in law then tried to sleep at a different house on a bed that is not a temperpedic by any means (note: when you owne a temperpedic it's very hard to sleep anywhere else). I pretty much didn't sleep at all cuz i was worried about the next day. So i was tired and moody and didn't want to go. We went up the first lift... as we started aproaching this very very steep part of the mountain there was a chance to get off the lift (we should have done this) but instead we kept going and my stomach dropped. I HATE the stupid chair lifts cuz i always fall when i'm getting off. so we FINALLY reach the top and of course i fall right onto my knees (the first of many bruises). I pretty much expected that so i wasn't too upset. We start going down the hill and i fall like 20 times in about 50 yards. It's not that i can't keep my balance or anything like that but there were a bunch of curvs that had roaps along the sides that say CAUTION: DROP OFF and CLIFF so i would get scared cuz i can't control where i'm going yet. Well about an hour and a half later we're half way down and i've been crying (remember what time of the month it is)... I keep falling and i'm tired and frustrated. Gavin decided to go ahead of me and wait so as i was going down I fall (nothing new) but this time the front of my board hid some powder and i flew one way and my board went the other and i twisted my knee really bad. I started bawling haha and i couldn't get my boots out of my bindings. Gavin was just sitting down the hill about 50 yards. I think he figured i was just being a big baby like I had been pretty much all day.
Well, anyway he finally realized once i was screaming at him to come help me i was hurt. So we walk a ways then i decided it's gonna take me FOREVER to get to the bottem if I walk so i got back on my board. I finally made it to the bottem and was SO HAPPY i finally made it. My knee was throbbing so I decided I'd better not go again. (Wasted an all day lift ticket and they won't give me a refund... real nice huh)
I've had a lot of time to look back on how i was acting and i've very embarassed.... i had such a negative attitude I wish i would have been in a better mood and just enjoyed myself but the whole itme i was saying I HATE THIS I WANNA GO HOME.. THIS SUCKS.. and CRAP CRAP CRAP every time i fell.
SO, what did I learn.
1. DO NOT go snowboarding when it is that time of the month.
2. Get PLENTY of sleep the night before
3. Do Not go on a long run your first run down cuz you'll just get frustrated and want to go home
4. Don't say you hate it over and over and over cuz pretty soon you really will and your husband will too
5. Have a posotive attitude
6. Try really hard to fall on your butt NOT your knees.. there is much more padding
7. Wear TWO pairs of socks cuz your toes will feel like they are gonna fall off and when you complain about it while you're crying it will make you look like an even bigger baby than you are already being!!
8. WEAR SUNSCREAN!! Cuz then next day everyone will say "WOW!! Why is your face so red?" and you'll have to say that you went snowboarding the day before and it will remind you of what a big baby you were and that you wasted a perfectly good lift ticket and you'll want to cry again but don't cuz you are sick of being such a baby.
9. Don't take the park and ride... it's a huge waste of money and if you do take it because it says chains or snowtires required and you don't have either, don't pay with cash cuz they don't give you change.. use your credit card
10. Snowboarding is HARD... once you get the hang of it I'm sure it's a lot of fun but DO NOT expect to have fun the first three to five times going...
I'm sorry this is so long but I needed to get that off my chest... Awwwww I feel better now.. except for the sore muscles and burnt face and bruised up knees :)
